Setup101 for bloggers

Your best posts are your oldest. So are their broken links.

Setup101 lets bloggers link posts to a setup page instead of to each product. When a product is discontinued or a retailer changes its link, you change it once in the setup, and every post that links to it sends readers to something they can buy.

Ideas

What you could put in a setup.

The "what I use" page

  • Your writing desk
  • Laptop
  • Keyboard
  • Software and apps

Recommendation posts

  • Best-of lists
  • Gift guides
  • Beginner kits

Niche gear

  • Camera bag
  • Kitchen tools
  • Travel kit

Example product types, not recommendations.

When something changes, edit the setup — the link stays the same. How permanent links work

How it works

Three steps, about ten minutes.

  1. 01

    Build a setup per topic

Group the products a post recommends into a setup, with your own affiliate links.

  2. 02

    Link the post to it

Add the setup link to the post, alongside or instead of product links.

  3. 03

    Fix links once

When a product changes, replace it in the setup and every post linking there is fixed.

What Setup101 doesn't do

  • Setup101 doesn't change links already inside your posts; posts link to your setup from the day you add it.
  • It isn't a WordPress plugin; it's a separate page you link to.

Questions, answered

What bloggers ask first.

How do I stop affiliate links in old blog posts breaking?

Link posts to a Setup101 setup rather than to each product. The setup link never changes, and you replace products inside it when they're discontinued.

Can I still link to products directly in a post?

Yes. Many bloggers keep a few direct links and add the setup link for the full list.

Does Setup101 take a cut of my commission?

No. Your links point to your own affiliate accounts, so the commission is yours.
