How do I write and send a newsletter?

Available on:All plans (emailing subscribers and scheduling: Pro and Pro Plus)Last updated

Go to Marketing → Broadcasts, click New newsletter, write it and add products, setups or courses from your library. Then click Send me a test, check it, and click Publish and send to email your subscribers, or schedule it for later.

Every plan can write newsletters, send a test and publish them on the web. Emailing your subscribers and scheduling need Pro or Pro Plus; on Free you'll see how many subscribers are waiting for your first email. See features by plan.

How to write and send a newsletter

  1. Open Marketing in the sidebar, go to Broadcasts and click New newsletter.
  2. Add a Title and, if you like, a Subtitle.
  3. Write the body: text, headings, lists, quotes, images, video and dividers.
  4. Click + Add from library to drop in your products, apps, setups or courses, or + Section to insert a ready-made section.
  5. In the side panel, set the Subject line (left empty, it uses the title) and the Preview text.
  6. Pick who to Send to and When: Now, or Schedule a date and time (Pro).
  7. Click Preview to see the email, and Send me a test to get it in your own inbox.
  8. Click Publish and send and confirm. Emails can't be called back once they go out.

Your draft saves as you type, so you can leave and come back.

How do I add products, setups and courses?

+ Add from library opens a drawer with tabs for Products, Apps, Setups and Courses. Pick up to 6 products or apps to show them side by side in a grid or a list, or pick one setup or course to add it as a card. Click to insert it after the selected block or at the end, or drag it into your email.

A setup card shows its cover and its gear list, taken from the setup when the email goes out, so it's always up to date. A course card shows the course with its price (or "Free") and an Enrol now button.

On Pro and Pro Plus, product cards use your buy and affiliate links. On Free they open the product's page on Setup101.

What are ready-made sections?

+ Section inserts a group of blocks you then edit. Placeholders look [LIKE THIS].

  • New setup announcement: your newest setup with its cover and gear list.
  • Gear I'm using this month: a grid of three products from your library.
  • Course promo: your course with its price and an Enrol button.
  • Product spotlight: one product, why you picked it and a button.
  • My latest setups: your three newest public setups.

Who can I send it to?

  • All email subscribers
  • Opened or clicked in the last 90 days
  • Joined from one signup form
  • Joined since a date

People who haven't opened an email in 6 months are left out unless you tick Include people who haven't opened in 6 months. Before you send, the panel shows how many emails it will use and how many you have left this month.

What does the email look like?

Choose a Look:

  • Letter: reads like a personal note, with your profile photo.
  • Branded (Pro): your logo at the top and your colour on buttons and links. Set them in Marketing → Settings.

Emails come from "Your name via Setup101" at noreply@updates.setup101.io, with an unsubscribe link and a note telling readers how to message you on Setup101. They carry a small "Powered by Setup101" badge, except on Pro Plus.

FAQ

Can I add links in my text?

On Pro and Pro Plus, yes. On Free, links in text are removed when you publish, but product, setup and course cards always work.

How many tests can I send?

Up to 10 a day. Tests don't count toward your monthly sends.

Can I publish it on the web without emailing it?

Yes. On Pro and Pro Plus, switch off Send by email and click Publish on the web. On Free, click Publish to web. See publishing your newsletter on the web.

Why didn't everyone get my first newsletter at once?

When your first newsletter goes to more than 1,000 people, it's sent in four waves, 30 minutes apart. This protects delivery for everyone. Your account also needs to be at least 7 days old to email subscribers.

Can I cancel a scheduled newsletter?

Yes. Open it and click Cancel schedule. It goes back to being a draft.
